Chemical Peels in Dayton, OH

Dead skin cells can give the face a dull appearance and can even make certain signs of aging more prominent. Chemical peels provided here at Miami Valley Plastic Surgeons can give you a glowing complexion, and are available for those living in Dayton, Centerville, Troy, Kettering, and other nearby areas in Ohio.

What are Chemical Peels?

Chemical peels are performed by placing a chemical solution on the skin to remove damaged outer layers. A chemical peel may be:

  • Superficial, which removes only the epidermis or outer layer
  • Medium, which eliminates dead skin cells in the top layer of the dermis
  • Deep, which extends to the deeper layers of the dermis

There are many different solutions that can be used to perform a chemical peel. For most of our patients, we recommend glycolic peels, which feature glycolic acid as the primary ingredient. Glycolic acid is derived from sugar cane, making it very safe to use even on those with very sensitive skin.

Benefits of a Chemical Peel

A chemical peel can reduce:

  • Acne and acne scars
  • Sun damage, age, or liver spots
  • Fine lines and wrinkles
  • Hyperpigmentation
  • Scars
  • Rough or scaly patches of skin

Who Is the Ideal Candidate for a Chemical Peel?

Those with darker skin tones might notice some changes in pigmentation after undergoing a chemical peel, and may, therefore, wish to avoid this procedure. Anyone else can be a good candidate for a chemical peel, provided they have no open sores or active skin infections.

What do I Need to do Before a Chemical Peel?

Prior to your chemical peel, you should avoid:

  • Sun exposure or tanning beds
  • Laser, chemical, or waxing hair removal
  • Using harsh cleansers on your face

During your consultation, we will recommend a moisturizing cream for you to use at home in the two-week period leading up to your chemical peel. It is important to use this cream as directed if you are to achieve maximum results.

What Should I Expect on the Day of my Chemical Peel?

On the day of your chemical peel, an aesthetician will:

  • Thoroughly cleanse your skin and pat it dry
  • Apply a chemical solution to your skin and allow it to sit for a few minutes
  • Rinse the solution off of your face with cool water
  • Apply moisturizer

How Long Does it Take to Perform a Chemical Peel?

It takes about 60 to 90 minutes to perform most chemical peels.

What to Expect After a Chemical Peel

You may notice some light stinging during your chemical peel. This sensation may continue even after the solution is washed off, particularly if you are having a medium or deep peel. A handheld fan can provide comfort while the effects are wearing off. You must take care not to become sunburned, and could also need to avoid wearing makeup for one to two weeks afterwards.

Will I Have Scars After Getting a Chemical Peel?

No, chemical peels are non-invasive and therefore do not produce scars.

When Will I See the Results?

Your skin may be red and slightly swollen initially, so you might not notice your results at first. It could take as long as two weeks for your results to be clearly visible. In some cases, a series of glycolic peels might also be recommended to provide you with optimum benefits. If so, you will notice some increasing improvement approximately two weeks after each session.

How Long Will the Results of a Chemical Peel Last?

The deeper your peel is, the longer your results will last. The effects of a deep peel are often noticed for years, while the benefits of a superficial or medium peel might be seen for a few months.

Additional Procedures to Enhance Your Chemical Peel Results

Chemical peels do not eliminate all cases of acne, nor do they get rid of moles. As such, acne treatment or mole removal could also be needed.

How Much Does a Chemical Peel Cost in Dayton?

Because you may have different needs than any other patient, we will not be able to discuss the exact cost with you until after your consultation. Cash, personal checks, and credit cards are always accepted for any of the procedures we offer, and many of our patients will also qualify for low-interest financing.
